Why do I start my new blog with “Hello world!”? most of my friends already know my previous blog and most likely will be directed here by me spreading the word through all my social media sites, but for new readers I want this post to be an introduction. I encourage you to read my “About” page where there’s even more detail about my life and the beginning of my adventure.
I started the “Riding The USA” blog in 2009 with the intention of writing about my USA adventures. I had never written anything with much detail in my life other than essays in school and college but I had started reading motorcycle blogs and quickly got enthusiastic about creating my own little space on the web. I also felt it would be a good way to record my adventures not only to share with friends but to keep a record for later when I’m no longer able to ride. It will be nice to relive all the amazing trips I’ve done when I’m sitting on a rocking chair later in life.
My first post was on December 1st, 2009 and covered my trip to Key West, Florida. You can read my first post here: “Trip to Key West”
The “Riding The USA” blog grew pretty fast and I had thousands of hits and hundreds of readers, but soon I realized the name was a limitation since it implies most of the riding will be in the USA. In 2009 with one kid in high school and one in middle school I never thought I would be riding outside the US but since then I have ridden in 47 states and almost all the Canadian provinces.
From Maine to Florida in the east coast and across the country to Washington State and Alaska in the northwest USA and from Quebec to Yukon in Canada, I have done quite a few miles on two wheels. Below are just a few of the thousands of photos I have from my trips.
Percé Rock rock formation in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence on the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula in Quebec
Eastern most point in the USA, West Quoddy Head in Lubec, Maine
The Gateway Arch monument in St. Louis, Missouri
Tail of the Dragon, Deals Gap, North Carolina
Death Valley desert in California
Mount St. Helens, an active stratovolcano located in Skamania County, Washington State
Dawson City in Yukon, Canada
Prudhoe Bay located in North Slope Borough in Alaska
Valdez in Alaska
I will continue the “Riding the USA” blog using it mostly to cover shorter trips. This blog will be used for a much longer adventure I’m planning for the near future. This new adventure is still in the early planning stages but I will be posting occasionally as I start gathering equipment and planning the route.
